This initial visit with us is one of the most important ones you’ll have. It gives us the chance to meet and get to know each other a little better, examine your oral health, and discuss any concerns you currently have about your oral health. It’s our goal to provide a stress-free experience for our new patients, so we created this guide to help you understand what to expect from your complimentary consultation—and beyond. Getting started
Whether you choose our Austin or Bee Cave office, you’ll be greeted warmly and introduced to some of our talented team. Before we go over your medical and dental history, we’ll also give you a brief tour of the office to help you feel more comfortable with your surroundings. We’ll then take a few digital photographs for our records, and we may choose to do x-rays or scans as well. These images help us get a good look at your mouth and give us a better idea of your specific orthodontic needs.
Next, one of our doctors will perform a thorough oral examination. While examining your teeth, gums, and mouth, you may be asked if you have had any problems with chewing, swallowing, or opening and closing your mouth. The information that we obtain from this exam, along with your history and the images collected, will give Dr. Tahbaz and Dr. Rezapour what they need to make an initial diagnosis. This information will also be used to create a personalized treatment plan for you based on your unique smile!
We never want our patients to feel like we’re rushing them through their appointments, especially the very first one. You can expect your initial visit with us to last about an hour. This gives us plenty of time to perform the exam, discuss your diagnosis, and address any questions or concerns you may have at this point. We’ll also go over:
- any oral issues you are experiencing
- if treatment is needed immediately or if waiting is recommended
- what treatment options are available to correct the problem
- an estimate of how long we expect your treatment to take
- the total investment required for treatment
- any payment or financing options we have available to you

The next steps in your orthodontic journey
After you’ve decided on a treatment plan with your doctor, we’ll schedule an appointment for you to have your appliance fitted. Depending on whether you’re wearing braces or aligners, you can expect follow-up visits every 4-8 weeks or so. During these check-ups, our team will assess your progress and check to be sure that your teeth are moving in a healthy way. Our doctors will also make any necessary adjustments for braces patients.
These visits are an essential part of the treatment process, so it’s important that you don’t miss them! While we do our best to schedule your appointments for a day and time that is convenient for you, we understand that there may be days when you’re running late or can’t make your appointment for some reason. If this happens, we simply ask that you let us know as soon as possible so we can reschedule your appointment for another day. This will help us keep your treatment plan on track!
